STARBUCKS | Bridging The Gap

THE ASK:

Representation is important across all roles and industries - tell the story of how Starbucks is using technology and advocacy to create welcoming experiences for people in the deaf community.

THE SOLUTION:

We know that a lot of content is made that pays lip service to topics around accessibility and inclusion. For this story we knew we needed an inside voice - so deaf advocate and director Storm Smith was the perfect addition to our team.

THE IMPACT:

Storm’s personal experience behind the camera allowed her to connect with Sami, a deaf advocate who hadn’t spent much time in front of a camera before we showed up at her front door in Seattle. Storm knew just the right questions to ask, and brought out a comfortable, confident, and outspoken voice in Sami, who radiates in the final piece.

The fact that people millions of people saw, watched through, and engaged with this video means that millions more people now are more aware of and empathetic to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing experience — and will hopefully make an effort to be more inclusive in their own lives.
